As the investigation into former President Donald Trump’s assassination attempt intensified on Sunday, the U.S. Secret Service faced scrutiny over how the alleged gunman was able to fire a barrage of shots from a rooftop with a vantage point of the outdoor Pennsylvania rally stage Trump was speaking from.
The FBI identified the alleged gunman as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. He was armed with an AR-15-style rifle and fired up to eight shots before being shot and killed by a Secret Service sharpshooter, according to law enforcement officials.
Following the tragedy, President Biden issued an Oval Office address urging calm and unity.
